The Jacksonville Jaguars are looking to build on last year’s success. After a dramatic come-from-behind victory in the playoffs, they ultimately fell to the eventual champion Kansas City Chiefs. They come in 2023 with a lot of promise especially considering their division is insanely winnable. At minicamp, the Jaguars have been very happy with the performance of third-round running back Tank Bigsby and believe he could be a key piece in this year’s team.
Jacksonville Jaguars Running Back Tank Bigsby
Things seem to be going well for the running back out of Auburn. John Shipley of Jaguars Report had this to say about Bigsby’s time in the Sunshine State so far.
“No player had a better day on Saturday than third-round running back Tank Bigsby. The No. 88 overall pick wasn’t able to show off what he can do in between the tackles yet since the practice consisted of just helmets and shorts, but Bigsby flashed in a big way as a pass-catcher and as an overall athlete. On the day, Bigsby caught three touchdown passes, with one coming on an angle route vs. a linebacker in 7-on-7 and two others coming in the red-zone vs. an 11-man defense. Bigsby nearly had a fourth score, too, but went out of bounds at the one-yard line as he turned upfield and attempted to keep his balance.”
Two-Headed Backfield
Travis Etienne will no doubt be the top guy heading into the season. However, the modern NFL has multiple running backs that handle the workload. Also, injuries happen and Bigsby could be thrust into a starting role at some point this season. Teams are always happy when mid-round picks look good. Good teams often find great value in those rounds and can get big performances out of players they are not paying much. This has been the recipe for contenders for the last decade and the Jaguars may have hit on Bigsby.
How far up the Jacksonville Jaguars depth chart will Tank Bigsby be by week 1? If he continues to impress there is no reason to doubt him.
