The Jacksonville Jaguars are in a new position
Jacksonville Jaguars general manager Trent Baalke has owned the keys to the NFL Draft for the two previous offseasons. The Jaguars handed them over to the Chicago Bears (who traded them to the Carolina Panthers) after the 2022 season, which saw Trevor Lawrence win a playoff game in his second NFL season. Baalke will wait for 23 names to be called before the Jaguars pick in April. He talked about the difference.
According to the Jaguars’ YouTube account, Baalke said the team’s principles wouldn’t change even if the spot does:
“The basic way it’s different is we have 23 people that pick before us,” Baalke said. “You know, the last couple years, we’ve had zero, so it’s our job to get the board stacked, to work hard with the coaching staff, to get as much information about these guys as we can and make sure we’re bringing guys into this culture that fit what we’re trying to build here and what we are building here.”
They won’t land a franchise-changing quarterback or blue-chip pass rusher, but the Jaguars can continue to add an elite starter with their 24th pick.
