The San Francisco 49ers have been one of the biggest success stories for a quarterback as they selected Brock Purdy as the last pick in the 2022 NFL draft. He has been one of the best quarterbacks in terms of statistics but it seems like the previous few weeks, he has fallen back down to earth.

After not losing a game throughout his first 14 regular season games, Purdy has thrown careless passes that have been picked off three times in the last two weeks. This is something that could just be signs of the inevitable coming that Brock Purdy is going to be the NBA’s version of Jeremy Lin.
Jeremy Lin was no slouch, especially with the New York Knicks during his magical run where he dominated seemingly out of nowhere in the world’s biggest market. However, it could be time that we admit that is what Brock Purdy has done to begin his career.
Why is Brock Purdy getting to that level?
Brock Purdy in Iowa State was nowhere near the quarterback we have seen him be in the NFL. Being a system quarterback is not as bad as people want to make the label, it means a player excels in the role they are put in. However, without the 49ers offense healthy, Brock Purdy is not able to elevate his game.
Looking at his previous two games against the Cleveland Browns and the Minnesota Vikings, Purdy went 33-of-57 (57.9 completion percentage) for 397 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions. This ahs happened when we see All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams, wide recevier Deebo Samuel and running back Christian McCaffrey all dealing with injuries at some point.
It seems as if people overhyped his presence and expected him to be the next Tom Brady but instead, he is competing against a talented backup in Sam Darnold. With this San Francisco team looking as one of the Super Bowl contenders, they are going to need good quarterback play. The team is not going to be 100 percent healthy and that is football.
Opposing defensive coordinators are adjusting to what Brock Purdy is not comfortable with and it seems to be the blitz so expect to see this happen more often. These defenses have been doing well against the 49ers offense lately and it could be a sign of things to come in the Bay Area.
