Indianapolis Colts star Jonathan Taylor is now nearing his fourth and final week on the PUP list. This only means that he could be making his much-awaited season debut for Indianapolis in the near future following his high-profile trade saga this past summer.
At this point, however, the All-Pro running back remains adamant about forcing his move away from Indianapolis after failing to secure a new contract with the team.
Jonathan Taylor Still Wants Out of Indianapolis Colts
NFL insider Dan Graziano of ESPN recently dropped a timely update on Taylor’s current outlook on playing for the Colts. Apparently, the 24-year-old still has no intention of suiting up for Indianapolis:
“From what I understand, he still doesn’t want to play for the Colts, and they still don’t want to give him a long-term contract. The time since the preseason has mellowed out the market a bit and maybe created more fertile ground for a deal,” Graziano wrote.
This does not come as a surprise. The fact that the Colts are still unwilling to offer Taylor a new deal only means that they will likely seek to move him prior to the trade deadline. For his part, the Pro Bowl running back isn’t doing the team any favors either as he appears determined to carry on with his ongoing contract holdout.
Will Dolphins, Packers Have Another Run at Jonathan Taylor?
Two teams that were heavily linked to a potential trade for Taylor before the start of the season were the Miami Dolphins and the Green Bay Packers. Neither side was able to strike a deal with the Colts, though, with Indianapolis reportedly slapping their star with a price tag that neither Miami nor Green Bay were amenable to.
At this point, it is unclear if the Colts have softened their trade stance on Taylor or if they will be willing to lower their asking price. It is worth noting, though, that both the Dolphins and the Packers have had strong starts to the new season, so it remains to be seen if this will affect their interest in one of the top young running backs in the NFL.
What seems inevitable, however, is that Jonathan Taylor’s long-term future will not be in Indianapolis.
