It has been a long time coming but Jonathan Taylor will finally be re-joining the Indianapolis Colts following a drama-filled offseason. The All-Pro running back has completed his four-game stint in the PUP list and is now set to return to practice with his team for the first time this season.
Be that as it may, it appears that this saga is far from over.
No Trade Offers for Jonathan Taylor
League insider Jay Glazer of Fox Sports has now provided a timely update on Taylor’s current situation with the Colts. As it turns out, there isn’t much trade interest in the 24-year-old at the moment:
“Right now, it seems like everything’s hunky-dory,” Glazer said, via Fox Sports. “He’s in good shape, he’s able to start this week. [Indianapolis] can activate him off the PUP list and then decide when he can play. There weren’t any trade offers out there right now, but in the past, teams like Miami and Green Bay were interested.
Taylor demanded a trade away from Indianapolis after failing to secure a new deal with the team this summer. The Green Bay Packers and the Miami Dolphins were the two teams that were heavily linked to a potential swoop for the highly-touted running back. However, for one reason or another, nothing materialized on those fronts.
At this point, it appears that both the Packers and the Dolphins may have lost interest in Taylor.
This does not mean, however, that these potential deals are dead. For all we know, either Green Bay or Miami could revive their interest in the Pro Bowler. If Indianapolis decides to place Taylor on the trade block again, and assuming that they lower their asking price, then it would not be a complete surprise if some other teams join in on the fun as well.
Indianapolis Colts Still Holding Out Hope
At the same time, a reconciliation between Taylor and the Colts still isn’t out of the question — at least according to Glazer’s intel:
“So they have to offer up what the Colts are looking for. In the Colts’ perfect world, Jonathan Taylor would stay and build something special with Anthony Richardson,” Glazer said. “… In their perfect world, that’s what would happen.”
Glazer acknowledges, however, that it will be very difficult to repair the damage that has been brought about by Taylor’s extended contract saga.
“That relationship had been fractured so much,” Glazer said, “You’ve got to see if it can still be put back together or not. And if not, the original teams were Miami and Green Bay. But even Miami, you look at it and say, well, their running game is really strong right now, so I don’t know if it makes sense to put somebody in there.”
At this point, it seems like Taylor’s future remains completely up in the air.
