Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson had a very underwhelming 2023 season when he saw his season get cut short after a Week Ten season-ending shoulder injury against the Baltimore Ravens.
Deshaun Watson Battled A Shoulder Injury All Season
Watson had been battling a shoulder injury for most of the season before that game, which caused him to miss starts against the Baltimore Ravens in Week Four, the San Francisco 49ers, and the Seattle Seahawks. He only saw a few drives in the Indianapolis Colts game, which were disasters.
Watson had surgery in late November for a displaced fracture in his right shoulder socket.
The Browns Signed A Lot Of Insurance This Offseason
The Browns saw backup quarterback Joe Flacco come in for Watson and lead the team to the playoffs, and many fans were very disappointed they didn’t bring him back this season. However, instead, the Browns signed backup quarterback Jameis Winston.
The Browns also signed Ravens backup quarterback Tyler Huntley on Sunday. Signs suggested that Watson’s shoulder injury wasn’t where it needed to be, and the Browns were loading up backup quarterbacks to ensure they were ready if Watson wasn’t ready to go. Still, excellent news came out about Watson on Tuesday.
Watson Can Start Throwing This Week
On Tuesday, Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot reported that Watson may be light-throwing again as soon as today.
That is some great news if you’re Watson and Cleveland Browns fans. It’s only March, and he’s already able to start throwing, so that probably means he’s right on schedule or ahead of schedule in his rehab process, and that is excellent.
Watson needs to have a big 2024 season after only playing in 12 games in his first two seasons in Cleveland. The Browns gave up a lot of draft capital and money for Watson, and it has been a disaster since he came to Cleveland two years ago, so he has to make up for it this year.
