The Seattle Seahawks have had discussions about trading for Jimmy Garoppolo, Jeremy Fowler said. This comes after the team missed out on the Baker Mayfield sweepstakes.

The Seahawks traded away franchise quarterback Russell Wilson earlier this offseason, signaling that there will be a rebuild in Seattle. However, a trade for the former Super Bowl starter would suggest otherwise.
Garoppolo’s contract is up at the end of the season, meaning he would be a rental unless he is re-signed by whichever team trades for him. Garoppolo is unlikely to be traded, but let’s entertain the possibility of it.
Why would Seattle trade for Jimmy Garoppolo?

The Seahawks’ quarterback room is not good. Geno Smith is projected to be the starter. A change to that plan could happen in a hurry, however. Drew Lock is a streaky player. If he hits a hot streak going at the right time, Lock could win the job.
However, a Garoppolo trade would nix all of that. There is no way the Seahawks trade for the quarterback not to start him. He has a cap hit of $26.95 million, after all.
How would this impact the Rams?

The Seahawks’ weakened quarterback room had Los Angeles Rams fans excited. However, there is one man the defending champions have struggled with over the last couple seasons. Jimmy G. This is a “don’t count your chickens before they hatch” case, but Rams fans dialed in the Seahawks games as a win.
These wins might need to be re-thought if the Seahawks traded for the quarterback. Garoppolo is undefeated against the Rams in the regular season. This is something that might scare Rams fans, but it shouldn’t.
The reason is the San Francisco 49ers have one of the best offensive line units in the entire league. Garoppolo is not a mobile quarterback. He resembles a statue more than a running quarterback. The offensive line means the world in this discussion. The Seahawks have a lower tier line, vastly lower than that of the 49ers.
Without the protection Garoppolo received from the 49ers line, he is a sitting duck. He has nowhere near the mobility of the old Seahawks signal-caller; yet the Rams sacked Wilson routinely. Things should stay the same with a proposed new sheriff in town. As a result, the trade talks should not scare Rams fans.
Garoppolo, in his contract year, is expected to play second fiddle to sophomore quarterback Trey Lance in San Francisco if not traded.
