The Houston Texans were one of the best stories in football this season. Behind first-year head coach DeMeco Ryans and rookie signal-caller C.J. Stroud, the Texans won ten games, nearly their entire total from the three seasons before combined, while winning the AFC South. Houston has a new identity under Ryans and Stroud, and the trickle-down effect now impacts even the special teams. Per NFL insider Ari Meirov, the Texans re-signed long snapper Jon Weeks to a one-year contract.

Weeks will return to Houston for a record 15th straight season. He has played in a record 227 games for the Texans.
Jon Weeks: Longest-Tenured Houston Texans
Instead of going the younger at the long snapper position, the Texans agreed to terms with Jon Weeks on Thursday. He signed a $1.21 million contract to remain with the team. The New York native signed with Houston in 2010 and made his first Pro Bowl in 2015. He has made 33 tackles while recording one fumble. He became a Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee this season. Weeks will enter his age-37 season next fall. The five-foot-ten-long snapper has been on every single playoff team in franchise history.
Nick Folk, Aaron Rodgers, Matthew Slater, Thomas Morstead, J.J. Jansen, Calais Campbell, Jason Peters, Mason Crosby, Matt Prater, and Marcedes Lewis are the only active players with more games than Weeks. However, Weeks and Slater are the only two to have played for just one team throughout their career. Meanwhile, former star wideout Andre Johnson remains second in games played for the Houston Texans at 169, well off of Weeks’ record.
Houston Texans: High Expectations in 2024
The Texans shocked the NFL this season by winning double-digit games and making the postseason a year after a three-win campaign. However, they will have real expectations next season with quarterback C.J. Stroud no longer a rookie. The Ohio State product threw for 4,108 yards and 23 touchdowns against five picks. He completed 64% of his passes. He also threw for 274 yards and three scores against the Cleveland Browns during Super Wild Card Weekend.
The Texans posted top 15 numbers in yards gained, points scored, fewest yards allowed, and fewest points given up. They also hold the 23rd overall pick in the upcoming NFL draft.
