The Houston Texans had a stellar season in the grand scheme of their “rebuild”. With both rookie of the years of the 2023 season in CJ Stroud and Will Anderson Jr, Texans look to further improve on the roster that took them to the divisional round of the playoffs.
Underwhelming Secondary
Though the Houston Texans had a generally average defense, the Houston Texans had an underperforming secondary in their 2023-24 campaign. Despite the talent on that side of the ball like Derrick Stingley Jr and Jalen Pitre, they could not find consistency stopping the pass.
The Houston Texans defense ranked 30th in opponent completions %, 26th in yards allowed per pass, and 20th in opponent pass yards per game. With the 2023 offseason now upon us, the Texans look to bring in new talent to potentially improve the defense.
Houston Texans Sign Jeff Okudah
Expected to be active through free agency, one of the Houston Texans’ first moves addresses their issues with the secondary.

Ohio State’s Jeff Okudah was a highly touted prospect coming out of college. Taken number 3 in the 2023 draft to the Detroit Lions, the elite prospect has yet to find his footing in the NFL. The 6’1 202 cornerback has yet to receive a grade higher than 59.4 from Pro Football Focus, which came in his 2022 campaign with the Detroit Lions. In that season he totaled 72 tackles with an interception and forced fumble.
With all the same upside he had coming into the NFL, the Houston Texans look to revive the hype around the number #3 pick. If he were to find his footing, the 6 million dollar deal would prove to be an extremely valuable addition to the questionable Houston Texans secondary.
