The Green Bay Packers have a variety of needs, both present and future, that they need to address in the 2025 NFL Draft, which will be held later this week. Many fans and analysts believe that the Packers should look at high-profile cornerbacks or pass rushers. Jaire Alexander, a two-time Pro Bowl defensive back, will likely not be retained by the team and they lost three over their cornerbacks to free agency already this offseason.
The lack of production from former first round pick Lukas Van Ness, plus the overall disappointing season from the position group as a whole, has led others to believe that Green Bay should target a pass rusher in the first round again.
Still others think that the Packers should make their first round pick a wide receiver, something that they have not done since 2002.
Former Green Bay Packers Quarterback Kurt Benkert Calls on Team to Get Jordan Love a Top-Tier Wide Receiver

In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), former Packers quarterback Kurt Benkert called on the team to fix what he perceived as a great wrong: their failure to get Jordan Love a bonified number one wide receiver:
“The Packers need to do right by Jordan Love. Find him a game changing receiver.
“Joe Burrow has Ja’Marr Chase & Tee Higgins. JJ McCarthy has Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison. Jared Goff has Amon Ra & Jameson Williams. Jalen Hurts has AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith. Matthew Stafford has Puka & Davante Adams. Tua has Tyreek & Waddle. Caleb Williams has DJ Moore & Odunze. Dak has CeeDee. Stroud has Collins. Baker has Evans and Godwin. Lawrence has Brian Thomas Jr. Penix has London. Giants have Nabers. Steelers have Pickens & Metcalf.
“There are a ton others too. Damn near every team in the league has someone that stands out. Time to make it right.”
As mentioned, Green Bay has not drafted a wide receiver in the first round since they took Javon Walker in 2002. He did not last longer than his rookie contract with the Packers.
That being said, Green Bay likely will target a wide receiver or two in the upcoming draft. Christian Watson is out for the first part of the season as he recovers from a torn ACL, and both he and Romeo Doubs are entering the final years of their own rookie contracts.
It is worth mentioning, though, that the last game-changing wide receiver the Packers had, Davante Adams, was a second round draft pick and did not have a breakout season until his third year in the NFL. In fact, many Packers fans wanted Adams cut after his second season because of persistent drop issues.
Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks are entering their third seasons with Green Bay, so their performances will be something worth monitoring this year.
