The Green Bay Packers are coming off an incredible win against the Dallas Cowboys in wild card weekend, with the defense and offense playing exceptional. Jordan Love proved that he is the next franchise guy for the Packers, but there was concerning injury to star corner Jaire Alexander in the game that had him leave the game and not return.
Head Coach Matt LaFleur commented after the game saying that the cornerback would not have been able to return to the game even if it was a close one. Now, Alexander was a no show at the practice field on Wednesday and will have two more shots to practice before their huge divisional matchup against the San Francisco 49ers.
the injury goes back to last week at practice where Alexander injured his ankle in a freak accident during a jog through but was able to suit up and have a huge game against the Cowboys before going down. Alexander had 8 tackles an interception, and a pass defended before he went down and was a huge part in the Packers major win.
Green Bay Packers’ Matt LaFleur Gives Update On Jaire Alexander Missing Practcie
On Wednesday after practice head coach Matt Lafleur addressed the situation with the corner and how he is doing with his progress to return to the field. He was quoted in his press conference saying:
“He’s doing better. He’s getting treatment and we’ll see where he’s at tomorrow,” LaFleur said.
While this is a great sign that he will be playing this week, it still leaves room for concern for Packers fans. They are going up against the 49ers who have studs everywhere on offense and they will need Alexander and their whole defense to have another game of their lives if they want to reach the NFC Championship in Jordan Love’s first year as a starter.
While Alexander still has only two more practices to get right, this was something he was dealing with leading up to last weeks game and was still able to go. It is safe to assume that barring any major set backs that Alexander will be good to again in this huge divisional round matchup.
Alexander has had some ups and downs this year with the Packers, but he is still their best corner by far and will be used to lock up Deebo Samuel or Brandon Ayuk. The Packers will feel much better on defense having him in the lineup and he knows that. While he is getting treatment for the injury, it be beneficial for him and the defense if he can log at least one practice before this game.
