Green Bay Packers become favorites to land Stefon Diggs
Packer Central’s Bill Huber reported that the Green Bay Packers have become a preferred destination for disgruntled Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs.
A leading sports betting authority explains that the situation in Green Bay is possibly the environment Diggs has been looking for in Buffalo:
“While the Packers appear to have some young, talented receivers, they don’t have that veteran presence anywhere within their receiving corps (tight ends included),” sportsbook manager Adam Burns explained via e-mail.
“Jordan Love needs that go-to, possession-type receiver who can be counted on to convert those critical third-down opportunities, and we know Stefon Diggs can fill that role on any team.”
If you look at the performances of the Packers’ young wide receiver room in 2023, you can see that they were struggling to get things going. Jayden Reed—Love’s favorite target last year—only had 793 receiving yards to his name.
What Stefon Diggs will bring to the team is the necessary experience and mentality to be successful in the National Football League. Despite his up-and-down form last season, Diggs still managed to haul in 1183 receiving yards and 8 touchdowns.
What makes the situation even more ideal for Diggs is the salary cap situation in Green Bay. Since there aren’t a lot of elite wideouts in the squad, the Green Bay Packers can shoulder the $28 million cap hit his contract will bring.
If Brian Gutekunst manages to successfully bring Diggs over, the Green Bay Packers will immediately become one of the most dangerous teams in the NFL.
