While it is certain that Jordan Love will be the Green Bay Packers’ QB1 for the foreseeable future, it is still uncertain who will be the backup behind the former Utah State signal-caller.
Acquiring a capable QB2 is one of the Green Bay Packers’ priorities this summer, and they can do so via the open market. Bleacher Report’s Timothy Rapp suggested that Green Bay might have to consider trading for Zach Wilson (or sign Ryan Tannehill).

“Green Bay’s current backups behind ascending star Jordan Love are 2023 fifth-round pick Sean Clifford and Alex McGough,” wrote Rapp. “The Packers could seek an upgrade at the backup quarterback position this offseason.”
According to the Associated Press, the New York Jets have permitted Zach Wilson to seek a trade, but the market for the former no. 2 pick seems bare. So, if the Green Bay Packers decide to take a flier, it would make sense if they get him on a cheap.
Should the Green Bay Packers go after Zach Wilson?
Zach Wilson’s NFL career has been a whirlwind thus far. When he was selected with the no. 2 pick by New York in 2021, he was expected to be the team’s franchise quarterback, but he has been anything but.
Despite surpassing the 2,000-passing yards threshold in two of his three NFL seasons, his completion percentage and interception rate were lackluster, and the arrival of Aaron Rodgers last summer didn’t help him either.

When Aaron Rodgers suffered a torn Achilles in his first game for the New York Jets, Wilson had the chance to cement his starting quarterback spot. However, in the end, he only managed to start in 11 of the 12 regular-season games he played, tallying 2,271 passing yards, seven interceptions, and eight touchdowns for a 60.1 completion percentage.

If the Green Bay Packers ultimately get Zach Wilson, it should only come at the expense of a Day 3 draft pick, most likely a seventh-rounder.
