The Green Bay Packers traded away Aaron Rodgers this offseason and there had been some chatter about another player being moved to the New York Jets. David Bakhtiari has been getting some buzz as of late due to his close relationship with Rodgers and the Jets’ offensive line woes. Packers GM Brian Gutekunst made it clear that the team is not trading away their star left tackle.
Green Bay Packers Will Not Trade David Bakhtiari
Gutekunst came in and immediately put any rumors to bed before he could be asked.
“First off all, we’re not going to trade David,” Gutekunst said. “So let’s just get that out of the way because I know there’s been a little bit of chatter about that, and it’s not going to happen.”
The team reworked his contract to help save the team money so trading him now doesn’t make sense. The Packers also believe that Bakhtiari can still play at a high level and help quarterback Jordan Love transition into the starting role. When healthy, he and Elgton Jenkins make up a formidable left side of the line. If the line can dominate it will go a long way in helping a young Packers offense.
Top Offensive Line?
The Packers could boast one of the top offensive lines in the league this year. Outside of Bakhtiari and Jenkins, second-year player Zach Tom has been looking really good. Other staples like Jon Runyan Jr. and Yosh Nijman have looked as solid as ever. Even Josh Myers, who has had his struggles in camp, is not a detriment to the unit. If everyone can stay healthy, the Packers could end up with a top offensive line in the league.
Expect David Bakhtiari to be in a Green Bay Packers uniform to start the season. Things change fast in this league and the team could look to move him later. However, I think the team will be everything they can to try and keep their star left tackle.
