The Green Bay Packers were missing the services of two of their most important weapons in their Week 2 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. Both Aaron Jones and Christian Watson were sidelined on Sunday, which may have played a significant role in Green Bay’s 25-24 loss to Atlanta to mark their first defeat of the new season.
Thursday’s practice provided a mixed bag in terms of the injury statuses of both Jones and Watson.
Green Bay Packers Star Aaron Jones Returns to Practice
The good news comes in the form of Aaron Jones returning to practice on Thursday — just four days before Green Bay returns to action against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. The Pro Bowl running back sat out the Falcons loss due to a hamstring injury, and he was also sidelined for Wednesday’s practice.
It is worth noting, however, that Jones was a limited participant in Thursday’s practice sessions. Nevertheless, the fact that he was on the practice field in itself bodes well for his chances of suiting up on Sunday.
Christian Watson Still Nursing Hamstring Injury
For his part, Christian Watson has not played this season also because of a hamstring injury. Unlike Jones, however, Watson was nowhere to be found on the practice field yet again on Thursday.
The silver lining here is that according to head coach Matt LaFleur, Watson has not suffered any setbacks with his hamstring issue:
“He ran two days in a row and gave him a day of rest, and we’ll see how he feels tomorrow,” LaFleur said, via Packers beat reporter Rob Demovsky of ESPN.
It does seem that Watson still has a chance to be available on Sunday against Atlanta, which will be his season debut for the Packers. A lot of expected from the second-year wide receiver following a very promising rookie campaign last term. However, injuries have been a major hurdle for the 24-year-old, and the fact that he has missed his team’s first two games of the new season isn’t exactly a very encouraging start.
