Albany State University Golden Rams honor Grover Stewart with a 2023 Blue and Gold Gala Young Alumni Award. The Albany State University Foundation selected him for this award because he is “a skilled player and influential community member.”
He graduated from Albany State University in Albany, Georgia, in 2017 with an undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice.
Golden Rams Honor Grover Stewart
The gala will occur at Albany State University on April 1, 2023. All proceeds from this formal event will go to merit and needs-based scholarships for Albany State University students. The Indianapolis Colts drafted Grover Stewart in the fourth round, the 144th overall pick, in the 2017 NFL Draft. Stewart was a backup defensive tackle during his first two seasons with the Colts. However, he became a starter in 2019.
In the 96 NFL games he has played, Pro Football Reference divulged that he started 64, defended seven passes, forced one fumble, recovered one fumble, amassed 8.5 sacks, 239 tackles, 25 tackles for loss, and 27 quarterback hits.
The Colts have had some of the best defensive players in NFL history, and Grover Stewart has the talent to become one of the best defensive players in Colts’ history.
Notable Achievements
While at Albany State University, an NCAA Division II institution in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC), Stewart recorded 141 tackles and was named to the 2013 SIAC All-Conference first team. He was integral to the Golden Rams’ successful defenses. The Golden Rams have been known historically for outstanding defense. Stewart is a product of such a tradition.
In 2022, the NFL Players Association selected Grover Stewart as the Black College Football Pro Player of the Year. The award evinces the significant contributions he has made to the Colts. Also, this award reminds NFL fans of the large and valuable talent pools available at historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs). Players like Stewart represent HBCUs well in the NFL.
