Despite lackluster performances from both quarterbacks, the Gators defeated the Bulls 31-28 in the Swamp. Both teams had strong ground games with three runners eclipsing 100 yards rushing. The Bulls missed a game-winning 49-yard field goal, due to a bad snap.
Gators Offense
Florida’s Quarterback Anthony Richardson who went 10 of 18 for 112 yards against the Bulls
The Gators were led by a strong ground game with Montrell Johnson Jr. rushing six times for 103 yards and a touchdown. Johnson’s touchdown came on a 62-yard rush that put a stamp on his great rushing night. Two other Gators running backs, Trevor Etienne and Nay’Quan Wright scored touchdowns. However, star quarterback Anthony Richardson did not play at his highest level, going 10 for 18 with 112 yards and two interceptions. Despite the poor performance by Richardson the running game for the Gators helped lead the team to the win.
Gators Defense
The Gator’s defense was a tale of two sides, the pass defense looked good, holding Bulls quarterback Gerry Bohanon to 12 for 28 passing for 116 yards and two interceptions, one of those interceptions being a pick-six. All night the pass defense for the Gators looked good. However the same could not be said for the Gator’s rushing defense. Two different Bulls rushers surpassed 100 yards, Brian Battie rushed 17 times for 150 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Gerry Bohanon also surpassed 100 yards, rushing 15 times for 102 yards and a touchdown.
What to Look Forward to
Next week the Gators travel to Knoxville to take on the Tennessee Volunteers. Although they are currently ranked 15 the Volunteers have looked good through three weeks, starting the season 3-0. The Gators will have to be at the top of their game if they want to beat the Vols in Knoxville.
