Florida is heading for a coaching change this offseason after head coach Billy Napier dropped two of his first three games to start the season.
Napier was already on the host seat coming into the season, and now, with two losses against Miami and Texas A&M, there is no way he will survive the year.
Florida will be making changes this December, and a handful of names will be floating around for possible replacements.
One name that keeps coming up is Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin, who, according to college football analyst Josh Pate, would walk to Gainesville in a heartbeat if offered the job.
The only issue with Kiffin is that he is already coaching a great team. He will be coaching for a while this winter because he should make the college football playoffs and could coach into the middle of January.
Florida needs to hire a head coach who can start coaching immediately in December for recruiting and transfer portal purposes, and Kiffin might not get the job because of this.
Matt Barrie from ESPN had Paul Finebaum on his podcast on Sunday, and they discussed who could coach Florida next season.
Barrie was talking about how Florida needs to call Urban Meyer, who coached the Gators back in the mid-2000s and bring him in in an advisory role to make sure Florida doesn’t lose their top players in the transfer portal while they are waiting for another head coach and Paul Finebaum had other thoughts about another former coach.
Nick Saban To Florida?
Finebaum stated that many would rather call another Saturday college football host in Nick Saban since Meyer is on Big Noon Kickoff and Saban is on College GameDay on Saturday mornings.
It’s very unlikely that Saban will ever coach Florida, but he did coach LSU and Alabama, winning seven titles combined. What if he gets the coaching itch again?
It would be a neat story to see Saban return to the sidelines and coach Florida, but he is making a lot of money working for ESPN, and coaching seems to be a thing of the past for the former national championship-winning coach.
Saban left the game to spend more time with his family, and going to coach the Gators would take a lot of time away from them because he would have to rebuild another program.
