Florida’s football season didn’t get off to the start it wanted to two weeks ago when Miami came in and ran up and down the field on them.
The Gators looked overmatched against the Hurricanes, and to make matters worse, starting quarterback Graham Mertz suffered a concussion, which kept him out last week’s game against Samford.
Freshman quarterback DJ Lagway looked impressive in his first start against Samford, and it’s something to build off of, but Florida does have one of the hardest schedules in college football and head coach Billy Napier is already on the hot seat.
Gator fans have been calling for the head coach to be fired since they lost to Miami, and there is a great chance they will get their wish.
If Florida moves on from Napier this offseason, it could consider another SEC coach who has built its program into a winner over the last five years.
Florida Could Target Lane Kiffin
Lane Kiffin has done a great job with Ole Miss the last few years, building them into title contenders. If the Gators move on from Napier, they should be all over Kiffin.
One of the best college football analysts, Josh Pate, was on Crain & Company and was asked if Kiffin would go to Florida.
Pate responded, ” In a heartbeat, Kiffn would walk to Florida if they gave him the job.

It’s very interesting to hear Pate say Kiffin would go to the Gators in a heartbeat. Kiffin could be the guy to bring the Gators back to dominate like they were under Urban Meyer in the mid-2000s.
Florida has been an okay football team since Meyer left in 2010, but the program has shown that they can win titles with the right head coach, and Kiffin could be the best guy for the job.
Kiffin has been able to attack the new era of college football by getting great players out of the transfer portal, and NIL and Florida needs that kind of guy to build their program back up.
Florida hiring Kiffin would be an amazing hire. Now, let’s see if they give him the call at season’s end if they move off of Napier.
