On Saturday, it was a brutal day in Gainesville when Texas A&M came into the swamp and rolled the Gators with their backup quarterback.
Two weeks ago, Florida saw instate rival Miami come to town and do the same thing, which shows how bad the Gators’ program is now.
Head coach Billy Napier is heading for the unemployment line in the next few months, and there is no way Florida will be bringing him back in 2025.There was a chance Napier would keep his job for one more season if he beat Miami and A&M while being competitive against Georgia, Tennessee, Texas, LSU, and Ole Miss.
Florida used to be one of the county’s best programs, but now it is looking at a fourth straight season of finishing below .500.
The Gators haven’t figured out how to get back to winning at an elite level since Urban Meyer left in 2010, and one college football analyst believes the Gators should give him a call.
Could Urban Meyer Make A Return Back To Florida
On his podcast, The Matt Barrie Show, ESPN’s Matt Barrie stated that Florida needs to call Urban Meyer. Barrie pointed out that the Gators have a nice young freshman quarterback, DJ Lagway, and that if Napier leaves, many other college football programs will come in and try to steal him and other top recruits the Gators have.
Barrie stated that Florida needs a top dog to be able to keep Lagway and other top players, and Meyer would be that guy.
The only question is whether Meyer would want to come out of retirement to coach a program that hasn’t been able to do much in the last 15 years.
Meyer won two titles for Florida in the mid-2000s, but he hasn’t coached college football since 2018 at Ohio State. The game is a lot different now than it was six years ago, dealing with NIL and the transfer portal. Meyer has dealt with a handful of health issues in the past that made him have to step down from Ohio State and Florida.
It doesn’t seem realistic that Meyer will be the Gators’ next coach, but Ole Miss Lane Kiffin could be the man for the job. He could very well be the top dog Florida needs to change the program around.
