On Tuesday, USA Today (Subscriber-Only) NFL experts submitted their official predictions for each team in 2022. With training camp finally underway, they included records, standout players, and even playoff fate. Each analysis was detailed, including the Eagles. Without further adieu, let’s take a look at what they had to say:
The expert in question is a man by the name of Nate Davis. Davis writes his annual league predictions at the start of training camp every year. In this summer’s installment, Davis had a detailed opinion on our Birds. Here’s what he thought of the Eagles’ season outlook:
“(4) Philadelphia Eagles (11-6): One wouldn’t normally regard Philly as South Beach North (North Beach?), but the parallels with the Dolphins are evident. There’s an impressive nucleus coming off a strong kick to 2021 – the Iggles’ fast finish landed them in the wild-card round – yet questions remain about the long-term viability of a former Alabama quarterback, Jalen Hurts, in this case. But he spearheaded the league’s number 1 ground game in 2021 and now has WR A.J. Brown to anchor the receiving corps, is fronted by a standout offensive line, and backed by a solid defense. Not to mention the benefit of playing in what seems a relatively weaker conference than Tagovailoa’s. Even if Hurts falters, this group might be good enough to cover for him. But if he thrives? Then the Eagles, who open against four 2021 non-playoff teams and face just one 2021 postseason outfit in the final five weeks, could go a long way.”
Could the Eagles’ Season Look Like This?
First, Davis has Philly as the #4 seed in the NFC at 11-6. This is pretty much what most of us are expecting, so nothing crazy there. He then compares the team to the Dolphins, which is very accurate and frankly not talked about enough. He mentions that the Eagles could exceed expectations and “go a long way.” That’s similar to what I covered in a previous article. However, Davis officially predicted that the Eagles’ fate would fall into the hands of Trey Lance and the Niners. He has the team’s season-ending in just the Wild Card round.
