When the Dallas Cowboys decided to trade Amari Cooper this off-season, the WR1 position opened up for the team. That hole is expected to be filled by none other than CeeDee Lamb, the Cowboys’ first-round pick in the 2020 draft. Now a member of the Cleveland Browns, Cooper said “CeeDee’s been ready… He’s going to make the plays when his jersey number is called.” The former Cowboy had the luxury of being the number one receiver in this offense every year since he was traded to Dallas in 2018. Now on his third team, Cooper knows what to look for in a future star-wide receiver.
CeeDee Lamb ready to step into the Cowboys’ WR1 role
In the interview on “The Ticket” Cooper mentioned something interesting about featuring Lamb in the offense. Cooper said, ” I think if Kellen decides to feature him, he’s definitely ready to step up.” That quote stems from last season when Cooper said he wished to be a bigger part of the Cowboys’ offense. Now he realizes Lamb is going to be in that same boat. Most star receivers can only be as useful in the offense as their quarterback and offensive coordinator allow them to be. So hopefully Moore will feature Lamb and allow him to flourish.
Lamb, along with the rest of the Cowboys’ receivers will have to step up in the absence of Michael Gallup. It seems to be realistic that Gallup will miss at least the first few weeks of the season as he recovers from ACL surgery. Lamb will have to become that true WR1 right away if the Cowboys are going to have success against a tough early season schedule. Dallas starts with Tampa Bay and Cincinnati. Two teams that had immense success last season. Both teams even bring in talented defenses that could give Dallas some problems.
No matter who the Cowboys face they are expected to return to the postseason next season. Anything less than that will be a disappointment. With Lamb being a big reason for the success of the offense.
