It’s been nearly a decade since the Philadelphia Eagles have had a WR surpass 1,000 receiving yards in a season. Although, former Eagles TE Zach Ertz eclipsed the milestone in 2018, you have to date back to Jeremy Maclin’s 2014 season for the last 1k campaign at WR. 2022 presents Philadelphia with its best chance to shake this trend.
Offseason addition of star Wideout, AJ Brown, helps the cause, having posted back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in his first 2 years in the NFL, 2020 doing so as a rookie, on only 52 receptions (20.2 YPR).
2021 1st round pick, DeVonta Smith, fell just 84 yards short of the mark as a rookie & only played 14 snaps in Week 18, as Philly prepared for a playoff run.
1,000-yard receiving seasons are easier to come by now than in years past, as the NFL added a 17th regular season game ahead of the 2021 season.
ESPN Fantasy Football Projections have AJ Brown going for 1,080 yards on 74 receptions, while DeVonta Smith is projected 874 yards on 65 catches.
Brown & Smith provide Philly will their best opportunity of producing a 1,000-yard receiver, but the opportunities Nick Sirianni & Jalen Hurts provide them ultimately will decide the fate of this near decade trend being put to rest.
