Hassan Haskins Departs
Last season, Hassan Haskins set the program record for 20 TD’s and also ran for 1,327 yards for the Big Ten Champion Michigan Wolverines. He led a methodical, grinding Michigan rushing attack that would wear out opponents with his punishing running style. Despite losing Hassan Haskins to the NFL, the Michigan running back room is set up to have a big 2022 season as well. They return a young, dynamic duo in Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards to headline what should be another strong Michigan rushing attack in 2022.
Blake Corum Becomes RB1
Blake Corum in particular gave opponents a much different look than the bruising Hassan Haskins. As a true home-run threat, Corum has the speed and vision to take any carry to the house. He still managed to run for 952 yards in only 144 carries as the second option, good for 6.6 Yards/Carry. As a rising Junior, Corum will get the most touches he’s had in his career and should top 1,000 yards easily if he stays healthy. He can also make an impact in the passing game, as he’s a solid pass catcher as well. A tough cover in space for LB’s and TE’s, Corum should top 1,500 All-Purpose Yards as the top option in Michigan’s backfield.
Donovan Edwards Set for Big Uptick in Touches
Behind presumed starter Blake Corum, rising Sophomore and former 5-Star running back Donovan Edwards will look to expand upon his role as well in 2022. Edwards didn’t get hardly any meaningful action early on in the season, but he is a very talented player. He is a great pass catching RB, giving Michigan the option to get him the ball in different ways. He didn’t even have 10 touches in any game until he exploded for 10 Receptions, 170 Yards, and a TD against Maryland in late November. Edwards also has good vision and the speed to take any touch to the house, giving Michigan two game-breaking type talents at the RB position. Michigan will rotate both backs a lot, giving Edwards a chance to also top 1,500 All-Purpose Yards in just his Sophomore season.
Despite losing a great RB from last year’s 2021 Big Ten Championship squad, Michigan’s RB room is in great hands with the dynamic young duo of Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards.
