Will DeVonta Smith, the second half of the Eagles’ lethal receiving duo, play on Monday night?
The Philadelphia Eagles’ season has not quite ended how they would have liked. From a 10-1 start with a clear stranglehold on the NFC East title and the NFC 1 Seed, the Eagles’s once borderline magical season has been derailed by 5 losses in the last six games, culminating in back to back losses to the Arizona Cardinals and the New York Football Giants, both of whom who finished with bottom 6 records in the NFL this year.
Despite this, the Eagles may well call themselves fortunate in still managing to acquire the 5th seed, who has the welcome benefit of playing the 4th seed in the playoffs, which this season is the inconsistent and truly, only a slightly above average Tampa Bay Buccaneers side with Baker Mayfield at the helm.
Even playing away from home, the Eagles are most assuredly not upset at this outcome, especially considering the generally favourable winter weather conditions in Florida – not that this would necessarily adversely affect this cold-weather Philadelphia team anyway.
And now, it seems like the Philadelphia Eagles have another reason to cheer, as it seems that a key player seems to have some good news regarding his likely playing status on Monday night, per Underdog NFL.
DeVonta Smith (ankle) said he’ll play Monday.

DeVonta Smith Believes He Will Return For The Philadelphia Eagles On Monday
DeVonta Smith suffered a mild ankle sprain in the Philadelphia Eagles’ defeat by the Arizona Cardinals in Week 17, and subsequently missed the Eagles’ eventually meaningless loss to the New York Giants in Week 18, after Dallas Cowboys thumped the Washington Commanders.
Now, just in time for the playoffs, Smith is hopeful that he will suit up for the Eagles in their Wild Card matchup in Tampa Bay. Whilst AJ Brown is the number 1 receiver on the team, DeVonta Smith has quietly become one of the best number 2 receivers in all of football, putting together back to back 1,000 yard plus seasons, even though he is not the main target.
Together, Brown and Smith have formed one of the best wide receiver tandems in the NFL, and have become quarterback Jalen Hurts’ primary targets over the past couple of years.
The Philadelphia Eagles face the Bucs on Monday, where they are currently 3 point favorites.
