The Detroit Lions continue to ink players ahead of free agency, keeping former parties employed by the NFC North club heading into the 2024 season. According to Bleacher Report’s NFL insider Jordan Schultz, Detroit has re-signed running back Zonovan Knight.
Knight is one of many players the Lions have re-signed this offseason. Head coach Dan Campbell’s squad and kicker Michael Badgley reached a deal late last month. Meanwhile, Detroit also re-signed tight end Shane Zylstra and defensive back Emmanuel Moseley earlier this week.
Detroit Lions: Re-Sign Running Back
On Thursday, the Detroit Lions agreed to re-sign running back Zonovan Knight. The North Carolina State product signed with Detroit early last season after being released by the New York Jets. He returned one kick while rushing three times for 13 yards. He also caught his lone target, but an early October injury prematurely ended his season.

Knight started his career as an undrafted free agent with the Jets in 2022. After an injury ended star rusher Breece Hall’s season, Knight earned an opportunity as a starter for the AFC East club. He rushed 85 times for 300 yards and a touchdown while catching 13-of-14 targets for 100 yards. He ran for 2,286 yards and 18 scores in three college seasons.
Detroit Lions: Running Back Room for 2024 Season
The Detroit Lions are primed to return their entire running back group from the 2023 season. Leading rushers David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs remain under contract, while Craig Reynolds is an exclusive right free agent. Meanwhile, they re-signed Zonovan Knight on Thursday.
The Lions finished last season averaging 4.6 yards per rush attempt, the fifth-best average in the league. They also led the NFL with 27 rushing touchdowns while posting top-ten marks in rushing yards and attempts. Montgomery and Gibbs each scored ten rushing touchdowns while combining for nearly 2,500 scrimmage yards. Reynolds was also a nice change-of-pace back, averaging 4.4 yards per carry on 41 attempts.
