The Detroit Lions started their 2023 campaign off with a bang. Upsetting the Kansas City Chiefs on opening night at Arrowhead Field was certainly a surprise start to the season. However, the Lions regressed in Week Two when the Seattle Seahawks came into Detroit and stole a 37-31 victory.
However, it would appear the Lions may have lost more than just the game on Sunday. One of their star defensive backs is likely to miss the rest of the 2023 season.
The Detroit Lions May Have Lost DB C.J. Gardner-Johnson For The Rest Of The 2023 Season
Several reports have indicated that Gardner-Johnson may have suffered a torn pec muscle against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.
Having signed a one-year contract with Detroit, the talented safety reunited with Aaron Glenn, who is the defensive coordinator with Detroit.
He would be a major loss for the Lions’ defense if he were to miss the entire season. Last season, Gardner-Johnson was tied for the interception lead thanks to his ability to make plays.
This news may force Lions safety Tracy Walker to step up for the remainder of the season. Walker lost his 2022 season due to a devastating Achilles injury after re-signing with the Lions last offseason.
Walker then dedicated himself to rehab in time for training camp, only to see his starting role taken by Gardner-Johnson when the Lions moved rookie Brian Branch to nickel cornerback.
