The Detroit Lions appear to be moving on from a former key piece of the defense.
Defensive tackle Isaiah Buggs took to social media to bid farewell to the city of Detroit and Lions’ fans.

Buggs was a key piece for the Detroit Lions in 2022
In 2022, Buggs started 13 games for the Lions. The defensive tackle collected 46 tackles, 1 sack, and 10 QB hits. That performance netted the DT a two-year deal worth up to $6 million this offseason.
However, that production did not carry over into 2023. Buggs was a healthy scratch in several games this season and started just 3 times. Buggs will end his Lions’ season with 12 tackles and 1 sack.
This move could mean other defenders are returning
CJ Gardner-Johnson, Alim McNeil, and James Houston are each recovering from injury and should be activated soon. Buggs’ release was likely a product of these players returning shortly.
The Lions have already clinched the NFC North. The team will now look to get healthier for the playoffs with just one regular season game remaining.
The Lions will finish the regular season off against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 18.
