The NFL offseason has slowed down following the 2024 NFL Draft, but there are still some top-notch free agents available for contenders to take a look at. One team to keep an eye on is the Philadelphia Eagles, who have exhausted all avenues to improve their roster this offseason.
Howie Roseman is clearly determined to get his team back to the Super Bowl. After falling off hard late last season, the Eagles have put in a lot of work this offseason. Now, they could be looking at signing a six-time Pro Bowl defender to beef up their defense even more.
According to Bleacher Report, the Eagles and Calais Campbell make sense as a possible match before the season.
Philadelphia Eagles Could Sign Calais Campbell
Campbell would certainly be an intriguing addition for the Philadelphia Eagles’ defense. Bleacher Report explained a bit more about why the match could be a great one for both parties involved.
“Calais Campbell could help strengthen a defensive front that added (Bryce Huff) but traded Haason Reddick and lost Fletcher Cox to retirement. Philly’s pass rush was serviceable in 2023 but saw its sack production fall from 70 in 2022 to 43.”
During the 2023 season with the Atlanta Falcons, Campbell put together solid production. He racked up 56 total tackles to go along with 6.5 sacks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and a defended pass.
To say that those numbers are solid would be an understatement. Add in the fact that Campbell is producing those numbers in his late thirties makes it even more impressive. The Philadelphia Eagles could use more disruption on the defensive line, which is exactly what Campbell had added everywhere he has played.
For the Eagles, this is a deal that would not break the bank. It would likely be a one-year agreement that would give them some solid help on the defensive front for the 2024 season. Assuming that is the kind of deal they’d make with Campbell, they should pursue it.
Expect to see the Eagles continue to search for improvements they can make to their roster. Roseman and the front office are clearly open to spending and making moves that improve the team’s 2024 outlook. This would be one of those moves.
