The Detroit Lions went 12-5 last season and went to the NFC Championship Game and general manager Brad Holmes was pleased with the way how last year went. One of the main reasons why Detroit made it far was because of how well quarterback Jared Goff played.
Goff completed 67.3 percent of his passes for 4,575 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions last season. One of the big helps with his game was due to offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and also head coach Dan Campbell.
On Wednesday, Detroit Lions general manager Brad Holmes onto 97.1 The Ticket in Detroit and talked about Goff by saying:
“Obviously Jared did a great job and collectively as an organization we do have a sense of the direction that we want to go and proceed with Jared and other players that are eligible for those discussions. But out of respect to the player and our process, we keep those conversations internal. Once we have updates we’ll make sure you guys know.”
Goff is 29 years old and will have one year remaining on his contract. It will be interesting to see what kind of contract extension the Lions will give him. He was one of the reasons why they won their first division title in 30 years this season.
Before losing to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC title game, they defeated the Los Angeles Rams and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the playoffs. Detroit played in a nail-biter in all three of those contests.
Detroit Lions Head Coach Dan Campbell Also Sticks Up For Quarterback Jared Goff Just Like General Manager Brad Holmes
Campbell praised Goff for the way he played for the Lions. Dan Campbell told the media by staying:
“Yeah, look, I get it because it hasn’t happened yet, just people saying it. But I don’t get it because, I mean, take the NFC championship game. I thought he played a good game for us. He gave us a chance to win that. “And I just feel like, man, since he’s been here I’ve seen a quarterback who’s gotten better and better and better and has grown every year and I would say who’s gotten better under pressure every year and really just risen to the challenge. And he’s more and more confident, he’s more comfortable.”
Had the Detroit Lions won the NFC Championship Game over the San Francisco 49ers, Detroit would of had a Week 1 rematch with the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl. Detroit won that meeting during Week 1 of the season against Kansas City on the road 21-20.
Jared Goff was one of the best quarterbacks in the NFC last season. He did reach a Super Bowl before during the 2019 season with the Los Angeles Rams when they lost to the New England Patriots. The Detroit Lions hope to win its first Super Bowl title in franchise history with Goff as its quarterback.
