The Denver Broncos’ season just took a turn for the worse on Sunday. Not only did they go 0-3 after suffering their third straight loss of the new season, but the way they lost will surely have Denver fans pulling out their hair.
The Miami Dolphins came up just short of securing the NFL scoring record on Sunday by blowing out the Broncos in their Week 3 matchup, 70-20. Nope, there are no typos there. Denver really just lost by 50 points.
Denver Broncos Lose Big
The 70 points scored by the Dolphins in this one match an NFL record that has been in existence for nearly six decades. The last time we saw a team score this many points in a game was in 1966, which clearly speaks volumes of how dominant Miami was on Sunday. Unfortunately for Denver, it also goes to show how horrendously they performed in the game.
Russell Wilson went for 23-of-38 for 306 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. It wasn’t an outstanding performance from Denver’s star quarterback by any means, but it wasn’t exactly a nightmare outing either. Much of the blame has got to go to the Bronco’s defense here after allowing their opponents to score an unprecedented 70 points in the totally lopsided contest.
Sean Payton Reacts to Brutal Loss
In his post-game press conference, Denver head coach Sean Payton was at a “loss for words.” The New Orleans shot caller admitted that the devastating blowout was simply unacceptable and that, “obviously that was embarrassing.”
“We knew we were playing a real good offense,” Payton said, via Josh Alper of PFT. “We have to look closely at what we were doing. When someone runs the ball up and down the field like those guys did and throw it up and down the field — it’s not acceptable.”
The Broncos’ season has now officially turned into a disaster. They are now 0-3 to start the campaign, and their humiliating loss on Sunday only compounds what has been a catastrophic start.
The good news for Denver is that we’re still just in Week 3. They still have a lot of time to turn their season around, starting with a Week 4 matchup against the Chicago Bears. However, unless they start playing much, much, much better than they did on Sunday, then they will surely continue on this downward spiral.
