The Denver Broncos news has been a bit quiet lately as we are approaching minicamps but the team made some headlines on Tuesday night. ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that the Denver Broncos have officially signed offensive guard Quinn Meinerz to a four-year, $80 million contract extension with $45 million guaranteed.
He was the team’s third-round pick back in the 2021 NFL draft out of Division III Wisconsin-Whitewater and according to Pro Football Focus has been one of the best offensive guards in all of the National Football League. While diving into PFF’s grading system, Meinerz was the third-highest graded offensive guard at 83.7, only behind Atlanta’s Chris Lindstrom and Los Angeles’ Kevin Dotson.
This also makes Quinn Meinerz tied with Robert Hunt and Quenton Nelson for the third-highest annual salary with this new deal for offensive guards. Only Landon Dickinson ($21 million) and Chris Lindstrom ($20.5 million) will have made more over the course of their contract.
Meinerz excels in pass-blocking as in more than 1,000 snaps last season he committed four penalties and allowed just two sacks and five quarterback hits. This will be very helpful as the Denver Broncos news on Bo Nix will be a lot better as they locked down a strong member of the offensive line. It will be interesting to see if we hear any more Denver Broncos news ahead of training camp.
What does this Denver Broncos news mean for the team’s chances to make the playoffs this season?
If the Denver Broncos were to make the playoffs this season, it would be a massive surprise. They are expected to be one of the worst teams in the 2024 NFL season as they have the third-best odds to have the fewest number of regular season wins according to DraftKings Sportsbook (+600).
This is being seen as a rebuilding year as they wait for quarterback Russell Wilson’s contract to get off their books. The Denver Broncos news is going to be focused on seeing rookie quarterback Bo Nix grow and compete for Offensive Rookie of the Year and seeing if the team can remain at least competitive on Sundays after seeing players like Justin Simmons be cut during the offseason.
The 2024 NFL season is going to be arguably one of the toughest for coach Sean Payton but will be used as a potential building block for the Denver Broncos’ future.
