Today, the Houston Texans take one step closer to beginning the 2024 NFL season. That is because they are the first full team to report to training camp today. What are the biggest things Texans fans should watch for? Read below to find out.
C.J. Stroud Taking Step Up?
There is no question that there is a lot of pressure on QB C.J. Stroud to take another step forward this season. That is because he raised people’s expectations right out of the gate with a phenomenal rookie season. It led to the Houston Texans making an appearance in the divisional round of the playoffs and Stroud winning the Offensive Rookie of the Year award.
Stroud certainly had the stats to back that award up. He had over 4,100 passing yards, 23 touchdown passes, and just five interceptions in 15 games last season. It certainly sets up a high benchmark to pass this season.
Stefon Diggs Fitting In?
Another big storyline to follow for the Houston Texans this season revolves around WR Stefon Diggs. The Texans traded for him this offseason. He is still considered one of the best wide receivers in the NFL.
So, what did Diggs do last season? He had 1,183 receiving yards and eight touchdown receptions. Now, Stefon Diggs will be 31 years old before the end of 2024 and he is entering his 10th season in the NFL.
Admittedly, Diggs is coming off the worst season of his Buffalo Bills tenure. However, with this being Diggs’ third team in the NFL and him traditionally finding success wherever he goes, there is certainly optimism that Diggs and Stroud will make a great duo.
AFC South Competition for Houston Texans
Last year, the Houston Texans managed to win the AFC South in the final week of the season. They had to defeat the Indianapolis Colts, who were led by backup QB Gardner Minshew. Now, the Colts are expected to have a fully healthy Anthony Richardson back at quarterback this season. However, if he happens to get hurt again, the team still has Joe Flacco, who won Comeback Player of the Year last season, to lean on.
Then, we have the Jacksonville Jaguars. They had a disappointing 2023 season but managed to lock up core players such as Josh Allen and Trevor Lawrence. Expect head coach Doug Pederson to do everything he can to allow the Jaguars to bounce back in 2024.
