The Denver Broncos have plenty to address this offseason. Prior to the week, many thought that they should still be stable at quarterback with Russell Wilson leading the way. But with the former Seattle Seahawks QB getting benched and reportedly being cut by March, there are now plenty of questions surrounding the future of the team.
Sure enough, if the Broncos end up parting ways with Wilson, finding their next quarterback will be Sean Payton and Co.’s top priority. After all, it will be hard to convince top free agents to join a team that they are uncertain to contend for a Super Bowl or not.
Should they be able to resolve their quarterback question, the next step for the Broncos is further fortifying that offense for their new quarterback. Obviously, they’ll need more weapons compared to what they have now.
With that being said, Bleacher Report’s recent suggestion on a potential free agent target should come in handy. New England Patriots tight end Hunter Henry is set to be a free agent in 2024, and he could very well be a nice addition to a rebuilding Denver Broncos offense.
“The Broncos will need to take a look at their skill players and figure out how they want to move forward. Greg Dulcich is still an exciting prospect at tight end, but he’s been injured for all except two games this season, and Adam Trautman brings next to nothing as a receiver,” the BR article noted on why the Broncos need Henry.
“Signing Hunter Henry would ensure production from the position while still allowing for Dulcich to develop.”
Hunter Henry is definitely an interesting target for the Denver Broncos, especially after what has been a solid year for him despite the New England Patriots’ struggles on offense. Through Week 16, the 26-year-old TE has recorded 42 receptions for 419 yards and six touchdowns.
Put simply, when there’s an opportunity to score and the ball heads his way, Henry is more than capable of finishing.
It is worth noting that Henry is set to become one of the better free agent tight ends in the market this 2024, with PFF putting him at no. 2 behind Dalton Schultz. He is projected to land a two-year deal worth $12.25 million.
If the Broncos can land him, they’ll get off to a good start in their roster overhaul.
Denver Broncos’ QB Situation
As mentioned, however, the Denver Broncos will have to address the QB position first before they can actually get things rolling in free agency.
For those who missed it, Wilson expects to be cut in March after the Broncos’ failure to become postseason contenders with him at the helm. They did play better this year compared to the previous season, but they are likely going to miss the playoffs once again, and the team isn’t paying him top dollar to be mediocre.
The Broncos have every financial reason to cut Wilson, and things do seem to be heading that way.
Nonetheless, it also now puts the Broncos in quite the predicament as questions about their next QB1 is bound to intensify.
Among the top quarterbacks set to be free agents in 2024 include Kirk Cousins, Ryan Tannehill, Baker Mayfield and Gardner Minshew.
