The Philadelphia Eagles had a painful loss on Sunday Night Football yesterday to the Dallas Cowboys. As a result, both teams are now 10-3 and the Eagles have lost the NFC East lead. Because of this, the Eagles have received a lot of criticism and even some doubt. However, there may be no bigger skeptic out there than NFL Network analyst David Carr.
David Carr Doubles Down on Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts
Last week, David Carr had an outrageous take on Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts. He suggested that Philadelphia needed to bench him in favor of backup QB Marcus Mariota. This was despite the fact the Eagles were 10-2 at the time Carr made these comments.
After the Eagles lost to the Cowboys last night, Carr doubled down on his previous comments. Carr asked Eagles fans if they “wanted to talk about it.” Then, he sent out an additional tweet on this subject. Carr suggested that Philadelphia was in denial and that they wanted to talk about other things. Then, he urged Philadelphia to admit they had a problem.
David Carr had an 11-year career in the NFL. He was drafted by the Houston Texans when they first became an expansion team in 2002. Throughout his career, Carr had 14,452 passing yards, 65 touchdown passes, and 71 interceptions.
Jalen Hurts vs. Marcus Mariota
Are Carr’s comments about Hurts unfair? Honestly, a little bit. This is a quarterback who has had some discussion for the NFL MVP award this season. Admittedly, that has been met with some controversy.
So, what was Hurts done this season? For starters, he has 12 rushing touchdowns this season. On top of this, he has 3,192 passing yards and 19 touchdown passes.
However, Hurts does have 10 interceptions this season. This brings up Marcus Mariota. The backup quarterback tends to be the most popular player on the team when that team is struggling offensively.
So, what can Mariota bring to the table? Mariota started 13 games last season for the Atlanta Falcons. At that time, he had 2,219 passing yards, 15 touchdown passes, and nine interceptions. On top of this, Mariota had a career-high rushing yards (438) in one season along with four rushing touchdowns.
Despite this, Carr’s take seems to be a stretch. Yes, the Eagles have lost their last two games. However, Hurts did not throw a single interception in those two losses. Hurts will have a chance to prove he can bounce back on Monday Night Football next week against the Seattle Seahawks.
