Oregon finally got a major win under their head coach Dan Lanning against Ohio State on Satruday, and last year, many wondered if Lanning could win the big one after he lost to Washington Twice.
Lanning is a great coach. The win over Ohio State will be big for him when he leaves the program in a few years and takes an SEC job, but one big-time media site has crowned Lanning as the new king of college football.
Bleacher Report Crowns Dan Lanning Has The New King OF College Football
Bleacher Reports Adam Kramer published an article titled “Dan Lanning Is the New King of College Football,” which is crazy to even consider.
There was a lot of turnover in the sport last year, with Nick Saban and Jim Harbaugh leaving the game, but Lanning is not the new king of college football.
Lanning has won one big game in three years, and the guy he used to coach with at Georgia, Kirby Smart, is the king of the college game.
Kramer stated in the article, “Sure, there are more decorated coaches. His former boss with multiple national championships, for one. But at a time when the crown is seemingly ripe for the taking, Lanning strongly announced himself on Saturday.”
There is no arguing that Lanning could one day take the crown and be the king of the sport, but crowing him now when he has done nothing in December and January is insane.
Last year, Lanning lost twice to former Washington head coach Kalen DeBoer, who coached in a national title game and is now coaching Alabama and has a lot more big-time wins than Oregon’s head coach, which includes this season against Georgia, the same team Lanning couldn’t beat two years ago.
Lanning is on his way to being a Top-Three coach in the game, but he has to win a few more major games before he should be mentioned in the same breath as Kalen DeBoer, Kirby Smart, and Dabo Swinney.
