Dallas Cowboys defensive star Micah Parsons grew up in Pennsylvania, so he would have probably been a hometown favorite had the Philadelphia Eagles taken him back in the 2021 NFL Draft. However, unknown to many, Parsons didn’t want to play for the franchise.
In fact, according to Parsons, he did his best so the Philly franchise won’t take him.
Dallas Cowboys’ Micah Parsons Drops Philadelphia Eagles Revelation
In the latest episode of his The Edge podcast with Jordan Love, Parsons revealed some unknown details of his pre-draft process leading up to the 2021 rookie selection.
The Cowboys linebacker admitted that he skipped his pre-draft interview because he didn’t want to play at home. As shocking as that may sound, the 24-year-old noted that he just wanted to try playing outside the state, having suited up for Penn State in college as well.
“I didn’t want to stay home. Like true story, Dave called me like, yo you’re dealing with all this off the field stuff and you’re not even going to talk to Philly? I didn’t want to go home. So when Philly fans are talking to me like man bro I didn’t want to be home,” Parsons shared.
When asked by Love why he didn’t want to play at home, Parsons responded: “It’s a lot bro, when you’re at the crib everybody wants to come be in the mix, the influence, always wanting to go back home. At some point you just gotta be a man, I just wanted to get fresh, you gotta think I went to Penn State, it was time for me to get out of PA.”
Micah Parsons Drafted by Dallas Cowboys
As a result, Micah Parsons got what he wanted. The Philadelphia Eagles were picking 10th during the said draft and ended up selecting wide receiver DeVonta Smith.
Parsons, on the other hand, landed on the Dallas Cowboys two picks later at no. 12.
It worked out pretty well for the youngster, as he won Defensive Rookie of the Year and is now a three-time Pro Bowler in his first three years in the NFL.
