Just in time for an NFC East showdown involving the Philadelphia Eagles, the Dallas Cowboys will have Micah Parsons back at his defensive powerhouse. Parsons, who has been out four games with a high left ankle sprain suffered in the Week 4 loss to the New York Giants, is officially healthy enough to come back, though he was initially listed as questionable. Parsons’ competitive spirit hasn’t stopped, and he said,
“Once I’m playing, I’m playing. That’s just the competitor in me. I was banged up plenty of times and I’m just like once I’m competing, I’m competing. It’s hard to restrain that.”
That absence has heavily affected the Cowboys’ defense. They rank near the bottom of the league in points and yards allowed per drive and have been unable to establish pressure on opposing quarterbacks without their star defender. Micah Parsons ranks second on the team in quarterback pressures (21) while only two sacks back from team leader DeMarcus Lawrence, who himself has been lost for a chunk of the year with a foot injury.

Micah Parsons and the Defense Under Pressure
Dak Prescott’s season is finished after tearing his hamstring against the New York Giants, and Dallas will go forward without him. Cooper Rush will step under center and now adds more pressure on Parsons and the defense to play well for the veteran backup. This game can be a make-or-break game for the Cowboys playoff hopes at 3-5.
“I would expect nothing less from Micah,” head coach Mike McCarthy said of Parsons. “That’s his mindset on everything. He’s not just extremely talented football player, he’s about as competitive an individual as I’ve come across in this business.” But the Cowboys will watch Parsons’ workload closely before a high-stakes divisional game and hope to get through the rest of the season, healthy.

Parsons couldn’t have returned at a better time. Their defense has injuries piling up, including Pro Bowl cornerback DaRon Bland and questions about Trevon Diggs. Cowboys fans and teammates hope Parsons can bring the spark that revitalizes their defense and keeps their season alive against a deep-seated rival.
