Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison has the NFL world abuzz after an Instagram story of the past week that simply read ‘Free 3.’ As the NFL trade deadline approaches, this short but intriguing post has fans and analysts guessing at the meaning behind it.
In recent years the Vikings have crushed their wide receiver picks in the draft, Addison being no exception. With that being the case, the second-year wide-out, Jordan Addison has struggled to find his way with Minnesota’s offense this season. Having made a promising rookie year of 70 receptions for 911 yards and 10 touchdowns, his involvement has notably been … Jordan Addison has only 14 catches for 231 yards and one touchdown through five games, plenty of yards considering he entered with an outstanding average of 22.8 per reception this season, and a lot of questions have been raised as to whether the cryptic post is a sign that he may be frustrated with his role.

Jordan Addison’s Place In The Offense
It’s a matter of the Viking’s current offensive scheme, largely built around Justin Jefferson and a dynamic running back in Aaron Jones. Addison has averaged fewer than three receptions per game in his brief time in the NFL, and that’s not a good number for a first-round pick who was supposed to be a stud. He added more fuel to the fire by missing two games from a lingering ankle injury in the early season, perhaps impeding his early season rhythm.
The NFL is hardly new to cryptic posts from wide receivers. The talented receivers, such as Stefon Diggs and Davante Adams, make it clear on social media when they are underused by taking to social media to hint they’re unhappy. Even a few weeks ago we heard from lesser-known Jaylen Reed of the Green Bay Packers who wasn’t happy about his place in the offense. There are multiple ways in which Addison’s post could be interpreted, such as a trade wish, a bigger role, or possibly just his frustration with the team’s current losing streak.
More Vikings News
With the Nov. 5 trade deadline looming, we’ll see how the Vikings respond. Will they pull Jordan Addison in more, or are we seeing the beginning of his inevitable departure from Minnesota? If Addison is in line for more playing time then the game against the Colts may shed light on that.
For now, one thing is clear: The intrigue has grown again in the Vikings’ season, with Addison’s message, leaving fans wondering if “Free 3” is a statement or simply a call for more chances to shine.
