The NFL trade deadline is right around the corner and New Orleans Saints All-Pro cornerback Marshon Lattimore, seemingly has teams around the league calling for his services, including reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs. Marshon Lattimore’s current hamstring injury that will sideline him for Week 9 has resulted in ESPN’s Adam Schefter confirming that there have been calls about his availability with the Saints. Potential suitors aren’t the least bit turned off by the injury, especially those looking to bolster their secondary for a playoff push.

Marshon Lattimore is Still Elite
The four-time Pro Bowler, Lattimore has shown himself to be one of the league’s premier cornerbacks. He’s already had 30 tackles and two pass breakups this season in his eighth year. But he’s gained 15 interceptions, five forced fumbles, and 405 tackles across his career. Lattimore is a Saints defensive mainstay known for his physical style of play and his ability to keep top receivers in front of him, a quality that will likely appeal to suitors who figure they will need to reach and overcome deep into the playoffs.
For a Saints team that is floundering at 2-6, they may welcome teams looking to steal Lattimore from the Lions while receiving draft capital in return and starting fresh for the future. New Orleans has an opt-out option after this season available to Lattimore, making them more inclined to consider trade offers given the 46 other guys out there. With a $14.6 million cap hit, the Saints could gain much-needed flexibility and assets by parting with the cornerback.

Marshon Lattimore would solidify an already competitive Chiefs roster that is 7-0 in its latest run to start the season. As it stands the Chiefs can be quite patient with Lattimore’s recovery as he rebuilds from his hamstring injury. And his experience, in particular, in high-stakes playoff games, would be a very valuable experience for Kansas City’s defense as they look to go back to the championship.
As Tuesday’s trade deadline looms, all eyes will be on New Orleans to see if they move their elite cornerback. Should a deal with Kansas City go through, it could dramatically impact the playoff landscape and give the Chiefs an even greater edge as they march toward another Super Bowl.
