All NFL teams are faced with some very tough decisions in the next few weeks, with the NFL new league year starting on March 13th, and the Dallas Cowboys have just told one of their promising players he can seek a trade.
Dallas Cowboys Told Michael Gallup To Seek A Trade
Calvin Watkins from the Dallas Moring News and Sports Day Cowboys stated, “Cowboys have given WR Michael Gallup permission to seek a trade source said.”

Gallup Was Once Very Promising
Gallup has been with the Cowboys for the last six seasons and started promising, going for 1,107 yards and six touchdowns in his second season in 2019. Still, he was never able to recover from that. In 2021, he tore his ACL; from that point, he has never been able to exceed the 500-yard receiving mark in a season.
Last season, Gallup played in all 17 games but only brought in 34 receptions for 418 yards and two scores in a pretty high-flying offense. The offense was led by quarterback Dak Prescott, who threw for 4,516 yards and 36 touchdowns.
Gallup has been Dallas’ third receiver throughout his career, playing alongside CeeDee Lamb and Amari Cooper for most of it. Then, last offseason, the Cowboys traded for Brandin Cooks as their number two guy.
Gallup was fourth on the team in receiving in 2023 behind Lamb, tight end Jake Ferguson, and Cooks.
The 28-year-old receiver looks like he will be out of the Lone Star State next season, and it will either be a trade or the team releasing him.
Big Time Receiver Was Already Traded
The Cowboys can opt out of Gallup’s deal and will have a dead cap of around 13 million dollars. A team could trade for Gallup, and earlier on Saturday, we saw a receiver trade go down when the Denver Broncos traded away Jerry Jeudy for a fifth—and sixth-round pick to the Cleveland Browns.
Jeudy is more promising and younger than Gallup since he was a first-round pick four years ago. He will be a free agent next season and could have wide receiver one upside, so I’m wondering what Dallas thinks they could get in return for Gallup if Jeudy only commands two late-round picks.
Gallup still has three years left on his contract so that a team will have a few years of control over him, but trading picks away for a wide receiver who has yet to go over 500 yards in three years probably isn’t on many teams’ radars.
The six-year veteran could help a team like the New York Jets, who need much help at the position. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers needs all the help he can get going into his second year in the Big Apple, which is really only his first since he tore his Achilles on the first drive of the game last season and missed the entire thing.
It will be interesting to see what the Cowboys do with Gallup and if they can find a trade partner, but I expect them to release him.
