The Dallas Cowboys have several key decisions to make in the near future.
Beyond deciding what makes the most sense when it comes to signing Dak Prescott to a long-term deal, keeping him on the current deal which will be a massive blow to the salary cap, or releasing/trading their franchise QB, Jerry Jones and company have two other major moves looming in the near future.
Two of the biggest young stars of the team, Micah Parsons and CeeDee Lamb are both nearing the end of their rookie deals and will need to cash in on a major payday in the near future to stick around in Dallas.
Lamb is coming off a breakout season were Mike McCarthy was able to get the most out of utilizing him as the Dallas Cowboys No. 1 wideout. He finished 2023 as one of the top wideouts in the NFL and earned First-Team All-Pro honors.
Parsons has been an absolute wrecking force since he was drafted by the Cowboys out of Penn State in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft.
He won NFL Defensive Rookie Of The Year in 2021, had back-to back First-Team All-Pro seasons in his first two years in the NFL, and earned his third-consecutive trip to the Pro Bowl in 2023 with 64 tackles and 14 sacks.
Back in October, ESPN Insider Dan Graziano mentioned the Dallas Cowboys “big three” and their upcoming contracts.
Micah Parsons will be eligible for an extension next offseason for the first time. The Cowboys still want to get something done with CeeDee Lamb, and they’ll be talking extension with quarterback Dak Prescott next offseason, as well. But Parsons could be in line for a record-setting defensive player contract and likely will be the top priority for the team. The Cowboys have been bracing for this deal for at least a year
In training camp over the summer, Jerry Jones noted there may have to be significant moves made to free up money to pay the edge rusher with a record-breaking deal he’s earned, that aligns with the current market for his position.
“We need the money to pay Parsons. We need the money to pay the players we’ve got to pay in the future. That’s a fact. That’s not even a philosophy. It’s just a fact. Those dollars are there, and we have this at this level. If you redid all the contracts, you could never put a roster together.”
Former Dallas Cowboys Player Says Micah Parsons Is Most ‘Selfish Player On The Roster’
While Parsons comes off as a team-oriented guy and one of the leaders in the Cowboys locker room, one former Dallas WR had harsh words about the All-Pro on a recent podcast appearance.
Parsons has arguably been Dallas’ best player since entering the NFL, but Jesse Holley has serious criticism for the 24-year-old.
Holley is a former Cowboys receiver who played 28 games over the 2010 and 2011 seasons. On a recent episode of Ray Ray’s Podcast, Holley went after Parsons. While the former receiver doesn’t criticize his performances, he believes that Parsons is only out for himself.
“Micah Parsons, to me, is probably the most selfish player on this football team,” Holley said. “One of the reasons that Micah Parsons does not want to play linebacker is it’s too much of a responsibility… Maybe it’s just the youth in him. Micah doesn’t want to study. Micah doesn’t want to focus in, and I truly believe Micah wants to be great for Micah.”
It feels kind of odd for someone who isn’t in the building on a day-to-day basis take such a personal shot at the most elite player on the team.
Anyone that has followed the Dallas Cowboys and Micah Parsons over the past few years knows that the pass rusher isn’t afraid to speak his mind. And while Parsons did drop a response on X, it appears that the 2-time All-Pro is taking the high road.
“Yall just want a reaction outta me it’s not going to work lol ! Im at peace ! Love !” Parsons wrote on January 26.
It’s not a direct response to Holley’s comments, but it’s fairly apparent Parsons is referencing the Cowboys alum’s call-out. Considering that Parsons has his own podcast, he may wait for his next episode for a full response.
