The Buffalo Bills have been busy this offseason. One of the most notable moves the Bills have done is trade star WR Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans. This left an opening at a key position.
Now, the Bills have made a move to attempt to improve that position. So, who will they sign? Read below to find out.
Buffalo Bills Expected to Sign Marquez Valdes-Scantling
According to Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, the Buffalo Bills are expected to sign veteran WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling. This comes after it was reported that Valdes-Scantling visited the Bills’ facility yesterday.
Buffalo certainly has history facing Valdes-Scantling. He has spent the last two seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs defeated the Bills in the divisional round of the playoffs last year. Kansas City went on to win Super Bowl LVIII.
Marquez Valdes-Scantling by the Numbers
Valdes-Scantling has spent six seasons in the NFL. He spent his first four seasons with the Green Bay Packers. After that, he spent his last two seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs.
The last two seasons have been the most notable for Valdes-Scantling’s career. That is because the Chiefs ended up winning the Super Bowl in both seasons he was on the team. Now, the Bills hope he can find that success with them.
So, what kind of numbers did Valdes-Scantling put up? During his two seasons with the Chiefs, he played 33 games and came up with 63 receptions. On top of that, he had 1,002 receiving yards and three touchdown receptions.
How does that compare to the rest of his career? Through six years, Valdes-Scantling has 186 receptions, 3,155 receiving yards, and 16 touchdown receptions. His best statistical season came in 2020 with the Green Bay Packers. During that season, he had 33 receptions, 690 receiving yards, and six touchdown receptions.
Buffalo Bills Moving Forward
After a disappointing end to the 2023-24 NFL season, the Buffalo Bills look to move forward in 2024. Apparently, they are doing this by changing their wide receiver depth chart in a drastic way. However, Valdes-Scantling is going to have big shoes to fill if he hopes to replace even part of the production that Diggs provided the Bills over the years. We will have to see if the Bills can make this transition smoothly in the 2024 NFL season.
