The Dallas Cowboys had a disappointing exit in the playoffs this postseason. They made history by becoming the first 2-seed to ever lose to a 7-seed. That made people wonder if owner Jerry Jones would blow the whole thing up and rebuild.
For now, we know that head coach Mike McCarthy will be back for the 2024 NFL season. However, whether DC Dan Quinn will join him is still up in the air. Yet, the latest report could give us a better indication of what might happen with Quinn.
Seattle Seahawks Hire Mike Macdonald
The Seattle Seahawks ended up hiring Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald as their next head coach. This came despite the fact that Dan Quinn interviewed for this position. Many had Quinn as the favorite to be the head coach because he had a previous history with the team.
For starters, he was the defensive coordinator for the Seahawks when they won Super Bowl XLVIII. Plus, Quinn was the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons during Super Bowl LI. Considering Quinn is regarded as one of the best defensive coordinators in the NFL, this led many to believe that he was a strong candidate for the Seahawks’ position. Yet, Macdonald was chosen instead.
Going to Washington Commanders?
Dan Quinn has supposedly completed two interviews with the Washington Commanders regarding their head coach position. However, Washington still has not announced their next head coach yet. What does this mean for Quinn?
It means that he should not be looked at as a lock for this position. Washington seemed like they wanted to pursue Detroit Lions OC Ben Johnson before he announced he was staying with the Lions. Plus, new GM Adam Peters may have ties to some members of the San Francisco 49ers, who are getting ready to compete in Super Bowl LVIII.
Staying With the Dallas Cowboys?
With the Commanders being the last open head coach position available, it is looking more and more likely that Quinn will remain with the Cowboys. Is that a bad thing? Not necessarily.
Dallas can run it back one more time with this group. Considering they secured the 2-seed this year, it is not out of the question for the Cowboys to have another good season. The chances of this increase if they can retain a key member of the coaching staff like Quinn.
