NFL fans will never forget the 2023 rendition of the Dallas Cowboys for their disappointing finish, an embarrassing first-round exit in the postseason at the hands of the Green Bay Packers. The Cowboys won 12 games, got a career year from the wideout CeeDee Lamb, and posted elite numbers on defense, yet they got trampled at home during Super Wild Card Weekend, 48-32. At the center of the blame remains quarterback Dak Prescott, who posted MVP-caliber numbers in the regular season but threw two back-breaking picks in the postseason. However, former Cowboys great and Super Bowl winner Troy Aikman still believes in Prescott as the man to lead the Cowboys back to the promised land.

Former Dallas Cowboys QB Troy Aikman: Steps Up For Dak Prescott
“Well, I do know we all draw on our past experiences, and when we don’t have great experiences, those then become hard to overcome. That’s the challenge for Dak. The question for him, and really for the team, isn’t so much what happens in the regular season but how they are going to play and how he is going to play once they get into the postseason. That makes for a long year,” said Aikman when pressed about current signal-caller Dak Prescott being the quarterback answer for his former team.
Aikman played his 12-year NFL career with the Dallas Cowboys, winning three Super Bowls and earning six Pro Bowl nods. A Pro Football Hall of Fame member, Aikman is now a color commentator in the NFL.
Aikman continued, “I still believe in Dak. I think until you do it, there will always be those criticisms. I know Peyton Manning went through that.”
Aikman compares Prescott to four-time NFL MVP Peyton Manning. The seven-time All-Pro lost his first three postseason games and only reached the Super Bowl in his age-30 season. Prescott will turn 31 years old this July.
“The pressure gets higher as they go into this offseason and next season. Hopefully, they have more opportunities ahead of them.
Dak Prescott: Career Year in 2023
Despite a rough showing in the playoffs, Prescott had a phenomenal 2023 season. He led the NFL with 36 passing touchdowns while throwing for 4,516 yards and completing 70% of his passes. He tossed just nine interceptions while rushing for another two scores. Prescott, Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, and Detroit Lions gunslinger Jared Goff were the only signal-callers to finish in the top five in passing yards and touchdowns.
