On Thursday, the Dallas Cowboys will make a potential franchise-altering move with the 24th overall selection in the 2024 NFL draft. Dallas could burn the pick, trade up, or move down, with all possible avenues helping them return to the NFC Championship for the first time since 1995. The Cowboys also own the 24th pick in the second and third rounds of this year’s NFL draft. The NFL, partnered with the 32 league organizations, will have legends or current players announcing the selections in those Friday rounds, a distinct difference from the first round, presented by Commissioner Roger Goodell.
The Cowboys will have a former team legend and three-time Super Bowl champ announcing their picks come Friday. According to NFL inside Ari Meirov, former Dallas defensive tackle Chad Hennings will announce the team’s second and third-round selections.
Former Dallas Cowboys DT Chad Hennings: Announcing Friday NFL Draft Picks

Longtime Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Chad Hennings will announce the team’s second and third-round selections on Friday, per multiple sources. Hennings, a defensive standout at Air Force from 1984 to 1987, won the Outland Trophy, awarded to the best college football interior lineman, as a senior. However, Hennings dropped to the 11th round in the 1988 NFL draft due to his military commitment. After serving in the Gulf War, the Iowa native joined the Cowboys in 1992 as a 26-year-old rookie. He remained involved with the Air Force (reserve), serving as a liaison officer for nine years.

Considered an irreplaceable locker room piece, Hennings spent his entire nine-year career with the Dallas Cowboys. After two seasons of low production to start his career, the Air Force product tallied 23 tackles and seven sacks in 1994. He collected a then-career-high 42 tackles and 5.5 sacks in 1995 while helping lead Dallas to their third Super Bowl victory since his rookie season. He had three sacks during the 1995 postseason. Henning finished his NFL and Dallas Cowboys career with 27.5 sacks, placing him 11th all-time in franchise history.
Dallas Cowboys: Looking For Playoff Success in 2024

Regardless of how owner Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys navigate the 2024 NFL draft, fans will remain hungry for a Super Bowl, or at the very least, an NFC Championship appearance. Dallas won twelve games for a third consenvice season in 2023. However, they have won only one playoff game during that span. Despite being more than a touchdown favorite during last season’s Super Wild Card Weekend home clash with the Green Bay Packers, they fell 48-32.
The Cowboys enter Thursday’s NFL draft quiet during free agency. Team owner Jerry Jones emphasizes the team’s “all-in” nature heading into 2024, albeit they have done little to move the needle with talent acquisitions. Jones could regain the faith of the team’s fanbase with a successful draft this weekend.
