With an NFC East crown in 2024, the Dallas Cowboys will have won the division for the third time in four seasons. Since 2016, Dallas has missed the postseason just three times while finishing no worse than second in the division sans the 2020 COVID-impacted season. During that stretch, quarterback Dak Prescott, last season’s touchdown passing leader and runner-up for the MVP, has led the charge. However, Prescott’s inability to win in the postseason remains a concern, with many talking heads, critics, and NFL devotees criticizing the signal-caller for his playoff performances in recent memory.
Dallas is just 2-5 in postseason games started by Prescott, a stark contrast from their 64% winning percentage with the quarterback leading the offense in the regular season. Despite the postseason woes, wide receiver Brandin Cooks isn’t ready to right off Prescott just yet, especially to the degree of some prominent media members.
Dallas Cowboys WR Brandin Cooks Goes to Bat for Dak Prescott
According to Dallas Cowboys insider Jon Machota, wide receiver Brandin Cooks is critical of those who are critical of the performance of quarterback Dak Prescott:
It’s blasphemy. It’s unbelievable. The guy shows up every year, year in and year out. Putting up numbers, leading his team. He can’t do it all by himself. A lot of those great quarterbacks that I’ve been with, Tom (Brady) and Drew (Brees), don’t get me wrong, they won a lot of games, won a lot of Super Bowls, but they had a lot of help around them as well, right?
Cooks continued, saying that he and the other pass-catchers must step up in the playoffs in 2024. Last year, the Dallas Cowboys went one-and-done in the postseason, falling to the Green Bay Packers during Super Wild Card Weekend. Prescott went 24-for-38 for 302 yards and three touchdowns but threw a pick-six in the first half en route to the Green Bay victory. He has thrown 14 touchdowns to seven picks across seven playoff games.
Prescott will enter his ninth NFL season, all with the Cowboys. He has earned MVP votes twice while tossing 202 touchdowns against 74 interceptions in 114 career starts. Meanwhile, Cooks joined Dallas in 2023, recording 54 receptions for 657 yards. The 30-year-old also snagged eight touchdowns, his most since 2015.
