With NFL training camps set to kick off within the next few weeks, that means we are getting closer to the NFL season and Madden 23 release date. EA Sports has been releasing the ratings of certain position groups with wide receivers and edge rushers being the groups that should catch most Cowboys fans’ eyes.
Over the next few weeks, we will see plenty of position groups released. But, these two need ratings need to be discussed now. Some of the ratings given to the Cowboys players are fair but the two big discrepancies seem to be with CeeDee Lamb and Micah Parsons.
Lamb ranked as the 24th best WR in Madden 23
For Lamb, he checks in at an 85 overall. While that seems like a solid rating when you compare it to the other receivers it is too low. Lamb is the 24th-ranked wide receiver in the game. No matter how you feel about Lamb I doubt you could find 23 receivers better than him in the NFL. Some of his particular ratings that are questionable are his strength (69), change of direction (89), and medium route running (86). The 23-year-old is an electrifying playmaker with the ball in his hands. His change of direction is one of his best abilities. So an 89 seems a little too low. Also, Lamb has feasted over the middle of the field through the first two seasons of his career. His medium route running should be higher than an 86 as well.
It seems as if Madden had a rating in mind that they wanted to give Lamb and then just adjusted his other stats accordingly to achieve a rating in the mid-80s. I think Lamb should be rated in the high 80s. With a chance at a low 90s as the rosters update throughout the year. The breakout season for Lamb is on the way and Madden will have to make some mid-season adjustments to reflect that.
Parsons is not top rated Cowboys defender in Madden 23
On the other hand, Parsons finished second in defensive player of the year voting last year and yet gets an 88 overall rating. I do not understand this one at all. An 88 puts Parsons tied for 17th as an edge rusher. He is even rated lower than teammate DeMarcus Lawrence. Parsons has a 91 speed, and 94 acceleration which makes sense. But, his 82 play recognition, 84 finesse moves, and 80 strength leave a lot to be desired. The 23-year-old finished second to T.J. Watt in defensive player of the year last season. Yet, Watt has a rating of 96. While Watt is deserving of a top rating, Parsons’ rating should be closer to his.
Overall, these ratings seem to underrate how good Lamb and Parsons have been in the early parts of their careers. It is probably a tough task to rate every player fairly. But, these two Cowboys players should be set for a rating increase throughout the 22-23 season.
