Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick earned another lifetime achievement for contributing to the audiobook world. Kaepernick is known for his controversial political activism on the field, but he’s managed to stay busy off the field with other corporate dealings.

Kaepernick recently partnered with the athletic brand Nike for a new apparel line. He’s also done work for the audiobook community. Kaepernick wrote a memoir about his life, “Change The Game,” which was published this year in graphic novel form.

Per the graphic novel’s listing on Amazon, the book is about how Kaepernick, a promising MLB prospect, chose to pursue a football career:

“High school star athlete Colin Kaepernick is at a crossroads in life. Heavily scouted by colleges and MLB as a baseball pitcher, he has a bright future ahead of him as a highly touted prospect. Everyone from his parents to his teachers and coaches are in agreement on his future. Colin feels differently.

Colin isn’t excited about baseball. In the words of five-time all-star MLB player Adam Jones, “Baseball is a white man’s game.” Colin looks up to athletes like Allen Iverson: talented, hyper-competitive, unapologetically Black, and dominating their sports while staying true to themselves. College football looks a lot more fun than sleeping on hotel room floors in the minor leagues of baseball. But Colin doesn’t have a single offer to play football. Yet.

This touching graphic novel explores the story of how a young change-maker learned to find himself and never compromise. How the right decision is very rarely the easy one, but taking the road less traveled can make all the difference in the world.”

Colin Kaepernick earns an award for the audio version

The memoir was published in audio form on the service Audible, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Amazon. Kaepernick worked on the narration of the graphic novel.

Per an announcement on Kaepernick Publishing’s Instagram account, Change The Game was selected as Audible’s “Best of the Year 2023” award.

This is another notable achievement for the former NFL quarterback. Kaepernick continues to inspire people worldwide even though he no longer has a platform on the gridiron.

He’s not playing football because he wasn’t very good. No touch on his throws couldn’t read a defense run to the sideline when the play breaks down cutting off angles to receivers and most of the field
