Heading into the offseason, the Cleveland Browns were about $17 million over the cap. The team had to get under the cap by the start of the league’s new year. They did so by restructuring the contracts of Denzel Ward and Jedrick Wills Jr, allowing the team to re-sign players and sign free agents.
Just because the team was under the cap doesn’t mean they should stop making roster moves. They also restructured the contract of their new wide receiver earlier today.
The Cleveland Browns restructured the contract of their new wide receiver.
Cleveland restructured the contract of Jerry Jeudy by converting $11.86 million of his salary into a signing bonus, adding four void years, clearing up $9.4 million in cap space.
As a result, his base salary dropped from $12,987,000 to $1,125,000, and his cap number dropped from $12,987,000 to $3,497,400 for 2024.
Finally, his $11.86 million roster bonus will be spread evenly for the next five years.
The Denver Broncos traded Jerry Jeudy to the Cleveland Browns.
Jeudy failed to establish himself as their number-one wide receiver during his four-year tenure with Denver, as he never achieved a 1,000-yard season, finishing with 211 receptions on 356 targets for 3,053 yards and 11 touchdowns in 57 games.
Denver ended up trading Jeudy to Cleveland in exchange for a 2024 fifth-round and a sixth-round pick.
Cleveland hopes he can bring reliable depth to their receiving corps.
Cleveland traded for Jeudy because they wanted to strengthen their receiving corps. Amari Cooper, David Njoku, and Elijah Moore were the top three targets last season, and the team experienced a significant dropoff in production after those three players.
Hopefully, Jerry Jeudy can rise to the occasion and be their WR2 or WR3 next season.
